Strength And Timeless Beauty

By Ilyne Hayes
Glowing referrals from satisfied neighbors, along with a history of 30+ years of taking on some of the most challenging pool installations in the greater Tampa/Clearwater area, earned Landmark Pools the opportunity to create a magnificent and timeless pool and deck for the homeowners of a double lot waterfront property in Belleair Beach.

The homeowners knew that they had to be selective when choosing the company that would bring their backyard vision to life due to the multiple design and engineering challenges that the pool’s size, features, and location would create. Foremost in their minds was that, while the pool had to be spectacular, the design should complement the view of the glistening waters and not distract from it. Foremost in the minds of Landmark Pools’ experts was that this precision-designed, 1,000 square foot pool, being built only eight feet from the gently curving seawall, never shift or settle over time. They were keenly aware that settling could throw off the circulation system that was essential to the function and longevity of this pool’s negative-edge design.
To achieve this stability, Landmark Pools engineered pilings to be embedded deep into the limestone bedrock, and then built the pool on top. “This pool will never move,” Bart O’Connell, owner of Landmark Pools, assured.
To achieve the sleek, contemporary design that melded the home’s architecture with the broad view of the waters of the Intracoastal, Landmark Pools took the idea of infinity-edge design to the next level, and created Perimeter Overflow – in essence, an infinity edge along all the edges of the pool, including the slightly curved edge that follows the shape of the seawall, making all of the pool’s edges virtually invisible. “The pool looks like a smooth sheet of water,” Bart explained. “Even the over-sized spa, which has eight therapy jets and sits just a few inches higher than the pool, has Perimeter Overflow. This design, while being the height of contemporary, is also timeless and goes amazingly well with the backdrop of the waterway.” Looking out over the pool, it’s almost impossible to differentiate between the waters of the pool and the Intracoastal.
Two sun shelves, equipped with bubblers and synchronized color-changing LED lights, make this high-tech pool into an enchanting sculptural work of art after sunset. Lined up on the sun shelves are several Ledge Lounger chairs, so that one can sunbathe with the cool water lapping at their feet, or just lie back and relax while appreciating the view. All of the pool’s systems were specifically designed to run by automation, so that they can be easily controlled with the homeowner’s smart phone.
To add to the resort-like feel of the backyard, Landmark Pools built a 48" diameter fire pit a few feet from the pool. The fire pit, also designed to merge with the surroundings, is sunken and clad with the same neutral porcelain tiles, as is all of the immense 4,500 square foot deck, which surrounds three sides of the home.
Thanks to Landmark Pools, the completed pool and deck more than exceeded everything the homeowners had wished for. Now they can entertain comfortably while marveling at their stunning view, knowing that the construction is as timeless as the beauty of the design.
