Designed With Outdoor People in Mind

By Ilyne Hayes
Being outdoor enthusiasts and huge fans of home renovation programs, Chris and Marisa had fun gathering ideas from TV shows like Pool King in preparation for creating their ideal outdoor living space. After coming up with a primary plan for their patio, they carefully researched and interviewed several companies before choosing Premier Outdoor Living & Design to do the job.

“We called Premier Outdoor Living & Design because we saw one of their photo spreads in Florida Home, and we felt that they had a more elevated look to their designs compared to what we had seen from other companies,” Marisa explained. After meeting with them, Chris and Marisa were even more confident with their decision. “The way they presented everything to us, they seemed to really have it in order, knew what we wanted, knew how to get there and gave us some really great ideas to make the space even more beautiful and functional.”
Lewis, Premier Outdoor Living & Design’s designer and Dennis, director of construction, agreed with the homeowners that the new outdoor kitchen and dining areas should look like they were integral parts of the original house and not add-ons. To attain this cohesive look, they emulated the house’s original architecture so that the new roofline flowed seamlessly from the existing structure. Both the new ceiling and the existing ceiling over the older lanai were clad with an earthy 1x6 tongue-in-groove wood, and the existing columns were given the same bold stacked stone facade as the new columns. All of the old pavers were torn out, and rich new travertine pavers were installed over the entire deck. For dramatic and functional purposes, two new linear fire pits were added—one as a focal point (and some wonderful warmth in the winter months) in the lounging area of the existing lanai, and the other, purely for drama, atop a raised ledge on the far side of their swimming pool.
The outdoor kitchen is the heart of this fantastic space. The L-shaped counter and bar area seats up to six and boasts the same stacked stone facade as the columns. The countertop’s smooth texture of crystalline granite forms a striking contrast with the stacked stone base. Adding to the ambiance in the evenings, beautiful LED lighting was installed all around the bar area. The refrigerator, sink, trash cabinet pull-out, and door and drawer cabinets are by All Pro Stainless Products and are sleekly designed, easy to maintain, and very durably built at surprisingly affordable prices! The grilling area is the focal point for this kitchen. A custom decorative vent hood cover treatment creates a column on either side of the grill and gives the illusion of a built-in wall system. Between those columns they installed glistening glass mosaic tile, which not only looks stunning, but also makes for easy cleaning. The dining area which sits adjacent to the kitchen, is spacious enough to comfortably accommodate many of their neighbors for a sumptuous steak dinner, perfectly seared on their new Lynx 27” professional grill. Adjustable recessed lighting along with the fans installed in the handsome ceiling keep diners comfortably relaxed.
“We are outdoor people and love taking full advantage of the fantastic Florida weather,” Marisa said. “We haven’t had dinner inside since this was installed! Everyone with Premier Outdoor Living & Design was a pleasure to work with, always friendly, and so very responsive to any questions or concerns, even after the job was done. Now when we sit outside and enjoy this amazing space, we know that our home is truly complete.”
